Short answer: Udaipur weddings work best between October and March, when the weather is mild and the lakes are full after the monsoon. The hard part is not the venue but the guests: most of them fly into Maharana Pratap Airport about 22 km from the city, stay across several hotels, and need to reach lakeside and island venues that coaches cannot. Plan the guest logistics as carefully as the décor.
This guide covers when to go, how guests get there, where they stay and how to keep a few hundred people informed across three or four days of functions.
When to have an Udaipur wedding
| Months | What to expect |
|---|---|
| October to March | The main season. Pleasant days, cool evenings in December and January, and the busiest venues. Book a year ahead for popular muhurat weekends. |
| April to June | Very hot. Outdoor daytime functions are hard on guests, so couples who choose these months keep events indoors or in the evening. |
| July to September | Monsoon. The lakes and hills are at their greenest and rates are lower, but rain can disrupt outdoor setups, and there are few Hindu muhurats in these months. |

How guests get to Udaipur
- By air: Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR), at Dabok, is about 22 km from the city, typically a 30 to 45 minute drive. It has direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai and several other cities.
- By train: Udaipur City station is in the city itself, with overnight trains from Delhi and other cities.
- By road: many guests from Gujarat and Rajasthan drive. Ahmedabad is roughly four to five hours away.
Tell every guest which arrival point and time to aim for, and whether you are sending a car. Collect arrival and departure details on the RSVP rather than over a hundred separate calls, so the pickups can be planned in batches.
Where guests stay
Few Udaipur venues can room a whole wedding, so most families block rooms across two or three hotels: the main venue for the couple and close family, and nearby hotels for everyone else.
- Block rooms per night, not as one total. Guests arrive on different days. A hotel that holds 40 rooms on the wedding night may have 10 on the night before.
- Decide who stays where before you send the invitation. Families notice who was put in the main venue. Group by side and by family, and keep elders close to the venue.
- Send each guest their own stay details: hotel, dates and who they are sharing with, so nobody is surprised at check-in.
Moving guests between functions
The old city around Lake Pichola has narrow lanes that large coaches cannot use, and island and lakeside venues are often reached by boat. Plan for:
- Smaller vehicles in rotation from each hotel, with fixed departure times printed on the schedule.
- Boat transfer times for any island venue. They add time and have a limit on how many people can cross at once.
- A shorter walk or a buggy for elders where vehicles cannot reach the door.
Music and timings
Under India's noise rules, loudspeakers and amplified music in the open are not allowed between 10 pm and 6 am, and many heritage and lakeside venues set their own earlier cut-offs. If the sangeet is meant to go late, hold it indoors or confirm the venue's limit before you print the timings.
Keeping everyone informed
An Udaipur wedding means guests across several hotels, three or four functions, and changes right up to the day. A PDF invitation cannot keep up. What works better:
- One wedding website with every function, its time, venue and map, and the dress code for each.
- An RSVP for each function, so the caterer and the transport plan get real numbers.
- Arrival details collected on the RSVP, and stay details sent back to each guest.
- A pass for each guest to show at the welcome desk, so check-in at the hotel is quick.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best month for a wedding in Udaipur?
November to February is the most popular, with mild days and the main Hindu muhurats of the season. October and March work well too and can be slightly easier to book.
How far is Udaipur airport from the city?
Maharana Pratap Airport at Dabok is about 22 km from the city centre, usually a 30 to 45 minute drive depending on traffic and where in the city you are going.
How do we manage guests across several hotels?
Block rooms per night in each hotel, decide who stays where before the invitation goes out, collect arrival dates on the RSVP, and send each guest their own hotel and dates. Run transport on fixed departure times from each hotel.
Can we play music late at a lakeside venue?
Not outdoors after 10 pm under India's noise rules, and many venues stop earlier. Plan late events indoors and confirm the venue's own limit in writing.
