Almost every Indian wedding invitation now travels through WhatsApp, but most of them travel badly — a JPEG of a printed card, too small to read, that a guest has to pinch-zoom to find the venue. The steps below are how to send one that actually gets opened, read and answered.
1. Send the link, not a picture of a card
An image cannot hold a map, a schedule or an RSVP. A link can. When you send a link, WhatsApp renders a preview card with your photo and names, and a single tap opens the full invitation — the schedule for every function, directions, dress code and the RSVP, all readable without zooming.
2. Write a short covering message
The message is not the invitation; it only has to earn the tap. Two or three lines is right. Copy any of these and change the names:

3. Choose groups or individual messages deliberately
Family WhatsApp groups are the fastest way to reach fifty people, and the easiest place for an invitation to be buried under forwards by the evening. Send to the groups, then message individually anyone whose attendance actually matters to you. Broadcast lists sit between the two: each guest receives it as a personal message, but only if they already have your number saved.
4. Expect the link to be forwarded, and plan for it
Invitations get forwarded — that is how a WhatsApp invitation reaches the cousin nobody had a number for. It also means people you never messaged will open it and respond. A guest who RSVPs without having been sent an invite is recorded as self-added rather than rejected, so your guest list reflects who is actually coming rather than who you remembered to contact.
5. Send at the right time
Six to eight weeks before the wedding is the usual window for the main invitation — early enough for outstation guests to book travel, late enough that it is not forgotten. Save-the-dates go three to six months ahead. Then one reminder about two weeks out, and a short per-function nudge the day before each event.
