Wedence vs Paperless Post for Digital Wedding Invitations

Paperless Post did something genuinely difficult: it made an online invitation feel like stationery rather than an email. Designer-led cards, digital envelopes, delivery by email, text or link, RSVP tracking, open tracking and guest messaging. For one polished event it is a lovely product.

Wedence is built for an entire Indian wedding rather than one invitation at a time. The same mobile link introduces the couple, lists every function, carries maps and travel details, collects a response per function, and stays useful until the last guest goes home.

For Indian couples the three differences that actually matter are the pricing model, multi-event coordination, and the assumption about which app the invitation arrives in.

What Paperless Post does best

The ritual of sending. Card designs, the envelope animation, established designer collaborations — it gives an online invitation the weight of premium stationery, which most competitors never manage. The host tools are strong too: guest-list upload, RSVP tracking, open tracking, follow-up messages and guest questions.

For an engagement party, a rehearsal dinner or a Western-format wedding with one main list, it is an excellent experience.

How the pricing works, and why it matters here

Paperless Post’s wedding pages use guest-based hosting tiers. At the time we checked, the published tiers were Basic at US$0.50 per guest, Premium at US$1.05 per guest and All Access at US$1.44 per guest, alongside some free designs and hosting options. Features and prices change, so check the current page before committing.

For one event with 120 guests that is a modest, predictable cost. For an Indian wedding it needs arithmetic. Six hundred guests on the Premium tier is roughly US$630 — and if separate functions need separate event setups, that figure is per setup, not per wedding. A small per-guest number does not stay small at 500, 800 or 1,200 guests, which is a perfectly ordinary Indian guest list.

Wedence’s free foundation does not scale with the number of people you invite. Advanced automation and logistics tools may be paid, so compare the final package rather than assuming everything is free — but the base cost does not rise with every cousin you add.

The arithmetic on an Indian guest list

Per-guest pricing is easy to underestimate, so here it is worked out at the tiers published when we checked. These are hosting costs for one event setup, before currency conversion and before any premium design.

GuestsBasic (US$0.50)Premium (US$1.05)All Access (US$1.44)
200US$100US$210US$288
500US$250US$525US$720
800US$400US$840US$1,152
1,200US$600US$1,260US$1,728

Two things to hold in mind reading that. Converted into rupees these are not rounding errors — they are a real line in a wedding budget, and they buy the invitation only, not the photographer or the caterer. And if your five functions need five event setups, the relevant figure is the row multiplied out, not the row.

None of which makes Paperless Post bad value. For 150 guests at one beautifully designed event, it is a fair price for a genuinely premium product. It is the Indian guest list that changes the answer.

Why Wedence can be the better alternative in India

Because the invitation is an entrance, not a delivery. A Paperless Post card is sent, opened and tracked; that transaction completes. A Wedence link is opened repeatedly over three months — for the hotel details, for a different function’s venue, for the updated timing after the muhurat moved.

And because attendance is organised by function. Indian wedding planning depends on knowing who is coming to which event, not who opened the invitation. The haldi at home, the sangeet caterer and the airport transfer team each need a different number, and per-event RSVP is the only way to produce them without a spreadsheet and a long evening.

Design elegance or operational depth?

Choose Paperless Post for the feeling of premium digital stationery and genuinely good sending tools. Choose Wedence for a wedding-specific information and RSVP system built around a multi-day Indian celebration.

The two can overlap, but they are not the same priority. Paperless Post starts from the hosted invitation. Wedence starts from the guest journey.

The verdict

Choose Paperless Post if premium designer cards, email and text distribution and open tracking are what you care about most.

Choose Wedence if you want a free Indian wedding website, WhatsApp-first distribution, and one live hub for several functions, maps, RSVPs and logistics.

For a single event, Paperless Post’s focus is an advantage. For a wedding with five functions and six hundred guests, Wedence’s structure saves more work — and, on that guest count, usually more money.

Frequently asked questions

Is Paperless Post free?

Partly. There are free designs and hosting options, while many premium designs and features use paid, guest-based tiers. The price you pay depends on the design and the number of guests, so check the figure shown for your selection before sending.

Does Paperless Post track RSVPs?

Yes, and well. RSVP tracking, open tracking, guest questions and host messaging are among its stronger features.

Can Paperless Post invitations be shared on WhatsApp?

A shareable link can be sent through any messaging app. The difference is design intent: Paperless Post is built around email and text delivery, whereas Wedence assumes the invitation lands in a WhatsApp chat and is forwarded from there.

Which is cheaper for 500 guests?

Almost always Wedence, because its base does not price per guest. Paperless Post at 500 guests costs 500 times the per-guest tier rate for the design you choose. Compare against the Wedence features you actually need before treating that as settled.

Can I host five functions on one invitation?

On Wedence, yes — one wedding hub holds every function, each with its own timing, venue, map and RSVP. On Paperless Post, multiple functions generally mean multiple event setups, which affects both the guest experience and the cost.
